I’ve been participating in a few Virtual Assistant (VA) forums recently and I’m appalled.
Now, I don’t expect people to be grammatically correct all the time. We tend to write in a conversational tone, so using proper grammar is not always a top priority in forums, on social spaces and when blogging.
Here is a good test for your potential VA. Ask him/her to use the following words properly in sentences.
- You’re
- Your
- There
- Their
- They’re
If they can’t do something as simple as using these words properly, they are probably not a good candidate to ask to be your VA. Even if the sentence is as simple as “You’re at your house” and “They’re at their house over there.” Just be sure the candidate knows the proper usage for each of these words. Don’t let them make YOUR business look bad by their improper usage of common words.
OH…and make sure they begin sentences with capital letters.
